The ACHEA Charity Programme
Since receiving charitable status on May 26, 2021 from the Charities Authority of Jamaica, in accordance with the Charities Act 2013, ACHEA launched its Charity Programme on July 30, 2021.
The ACHEA Charity Programme seeks to recognize and award individuals and institutions in need with tangible donations that serve to assist in pursuing further academic and cultural excellence.

Rational for a Charity Programme
- To recognize and provide an incentive to individuals who are achieving excellence in education, who display a level of giving back to the community, and who are in need of charitable support.
- To recognize and provide incentives to institutions that are actively promoting excellence in education, community outreach and service to others.
Charity for Individuals
Any individual can be nominated with evidence of need who has displayed academic potential in following areas:
- Excellence in academic performance
- Leadership qualities
- Excellent peer-to-peer communication and association
- Displays a good attitude to learn.
- Most deserving (low-income family/financially challenged/ doing plenty with very little)
- Displays special skills.
- Made an exceptional contribution to the community or nationally (art, culture and sport, etc.)
- Someone who overcame challenges to achieve excellence in art, academics and/or culture, culture, sport, etc.
Charity for Institutions
Institutions may also be nominated as well, from the following categories and once they have met the following requirements:
Public Schools
Educational institutions that teach at the infant, primary, secondary, tertiary and professional levels.
Homes for Needy
Homes that cater to the needs for children, adults and differently-abled persons
Requirements
The following are a few of the requirements in order for institutions to be nominated for consideration:
- A curriculum that includes an innovative approach to teaching and learning.
- Quantitatively demonstrate that students are achieving at or above their ability to learn.
- Excellent performance in national/international examinations
- Excellence in extra-curricular activities (these should be listed)
- Exhibits significant and lasting impact on students, teachers, parents and others.
- Consistently achieve at least 90% student attendance and modelling the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in service to its constituents to ensure it attracts new students.
- Values and emphasizes the school’s mission, vision, motto, etc.
- Actively involved in an operational plan to achieve scalability and sustainability,
in the prevention or relief of poverty. - Existence of a programme or project with a great impact on the vulnerable
communities - Evidence that the project will use the charity for further expansion/continuity.
The Application Process
ACHEA members could nominate any educational institution, social agency, or programme
that promotes art, culture, academic excellence, sport or a combination. An individual’s
contribution to academic excellence, art and culture or a combination could also benefit from
the charity.
Nominations must be made using the required “Nomination Form” and giving reasons for the
nomination.
Such nomination(s) is/are to be submitted to the relevant Chapter Chair in the country the
institution is located. A supporting statement must accompany each nomination
Selection & Award Process
Below is the schedule for the nomination and award process for the ACHEA Charity programme

February 28th | Chapters to nominate institution(s)/individual(s) and forwarded to the Charity Committee. |
April 30th | Charity Selection Committee meeting held and the name(s) of the awardee(s) forwarded to ACHEA Executive for final approval |
June | Announcement of Awards |
July | Presentation of Awards – during our annual conference |
